CENTERVILLE BOYS SOCCER
ALUMNI BRICK CAMPAIGN
Continuing the Tradition...
As some traditions mature and change; other traditions begin and develop – the key is bridging these two to PRESERVE what is truly at the foundation of the tradition itself!
The Centerville Soccer Stadium at Magsig is an icon of envy in the soccer community and has held that title for well over 40 years. From its beginning in 1973, Gary Avedikian helped assemble and construct what would become the home of the Elks. That home created an environment that would provide the foundation to deliver a high caliber program that has produced results filling the locker room with trophies including league, sectional, district, regional, State Final appearances and of course the 1984 State Championship! In 2012, the stadium finally had run out of time and was no longer structurally sound; it was time to rebuild. With the help and input from alumni, a state of the art facility was constructed with a focus on retaining tradition but building for the future. You would be proud to call it your home.
During this construction, the field remained untouched; still holding on to the “traditional” grass pitch. It is again time to rebuild and prepare for the future with a synthetic turf field (Turf). The game is changing along with the facilities needed to PRESERVE the Centerville winning tradition. The following statistics help describe the changing landscape:
• 11 of the 18 GWOC soccer programs currently play on Turf
• The top two teams in each GWOC division, other than the Elks, play on Turf (2014 GWOC)
• The 2014 Top 10 Ohio High School soccer programs all play on Turf
• After the first round of tournament play, almost ALL tournament games are played on Turf
• With 6 boys and girls soccer teams, the practice fields/facilities have continued to deteriorate. There are more injuries from practice than playing full-impact games. The addition of Turf will provide additional training surface and reduce the overuse on the practice field
• The 2015 Women’s World Cup Tournament will be played 100% on Turf fields
Preserving the Tradition:
Centerville has received an extremely gracious private donation financing more than half the Turf project. The remaining balance is dependent on funding through contributions from corporate sponsors and private donations. We know the game is changing. That cannot be stopped. So how do we generate funds to make the Turf project a reality while ensuring we retain the traditions that helped us get here? The soccer program is providing a “path” to help bridge this transition. In keeping with CHS heritage, “The Tradition Continues”; a player walkway is being constructed to BEGIN a new tradition while honoring the true spirit of the program; YOU the players and alumni.
As players exit the locker room and enter the field they will only need to glance down to understand why they must play each game with the integrity and competitiveness that has defined the program. The Central Tunnel that was created when the stadium was rebuilt will be lined with pavers honoring those that help develop it into one of the state’s most respected programs.
The program is offering several packages allowing each alumni to consider their contribution and commitment back to the program. We appreciate your generosity.
