Centerville 6 - Northmont 0
In another one sided tournament game, the Elks shutout their opponent. This time it was the Northmont Thunderbolts. The victory can be attributed
to solid defense and aggressive offense and all players did their job. Scoring was concentrated to just a few players. Senior Slater Morgann was a one man
wrecking crew leading the scoring with half of the 6 goals scored! In a similar fashion, 2 goals were scored by senior Colin Barnhart, one being a 35
yard solo run through Bolt defenders straight to the goal. The scoring was rounded out with a goal from junior Garrett Morrison.
Final score; Elks 6, Bolts 0.
The boys move on to the next game is October 29, Saturday at 4:30 in Lebanon against Milford.
October 22, 2011
Centerville 6 - Ross 0
In the first game of the District tournament for the Elks, they came away victors, shutting out the Ross High School Rams with a final score of 6-0.
The game was one sided all the way. Though the Rams had a few slight opportunities to score, they spent most of the game trying to defend against the Elks
offense. Elk goals were spread around with winning shots from: Rob Berry, Brad Schluter, Andrew Roop, and Slater Morgann. Both Roop and Morgann had
two goals each.
Of course, an Elk victory is always good to see. This game was even more special as it was the first return game for junior Jake Stovall who has
been out the season recovering from an injury suffered in summer tryouts. Jake's long throw ins and defensive prowess were a welcome sight.
It's good to have you back Jake!
The next tournament game is Tuesday, Oct 25th at 7 pm. Centerville will face Northmont at Lebanon stadium.
October 13, 2011
Centerville 1 - Fairmont 0
In the final game of the regular season, the Elks defeated the Fairmont Firebirds 1-0. In a game that could have gone either way for most of the
game, the Elks capitalized on a scoring opportunity with only 9 minutes left in the game. Seniors Rob Berry and Colin Barnhart teamed up to take
advantage of the Fairmont keeper's poor position. With the keeper out of the goal, Berry earned an assist giving up the ball to Barnhart who scored
the winning goal.
The Elks finish the 2011 regular season with a record of 11-3-2.
Centerville tournament play will begin at Home with the winner of the Ross/Fairborn match on Saturday October 22 at 2:00 pm.
The Reserve match was clearly a misnomer for Fairmont, as they had none (i.e. absolutely zero players on their bench).
Recognizing this situation, a collegial contest ensured wherein a few smiles were even seen exchanged between opposing players. Captain Kevin Seebacher
passed the ball to Andrew Ludwig who launched an absolute rocket from outside the box. The Fairmont keeper leapt with a single arm extended upward but was
unable to stop it from tucking just under the crossbar for the Elks opening score.
Brian Flynn then lofted a cross for a chest bump-in by Troy Barklay. Barely a moment later, Hunter Young switched fields to initiate a Barklay dish
to Captain Sam Hofmann who punched it in. The half closed with a Mitch Curtis chip to a Flynn poke-in to light the lamp yet again.
At the start of the 2nd half, Barklay found Young racing toward the box and then drilling it home. Most of the second half was spent near or inside
the Fairmont box, but with no further scoring. The 5-0 shutout victory concludes a simply outstanding 12-2-1 season wherein the Reserve squad tallied
59 goals, shut out 10 opponents, and yielded just a single goal to each of the remaining 5 opponents… well done Elks!

Centerville 3 - Wayne 2
The Elk boy's varsity faced the Wayne Warriors on our home turf tonight. It was senior night and the last regular season home game.
It didn't take long for Wayne to draw first blood, scoring four minutes into the game. It took a while for the Elks to get things moving their
direction. After numerous shots on goal, Centerville tied the game on a winning shot by senior Slater Morgann. Within minutes, the Elks struck
again when Andrew Roop absolutely blasted a goal off a long corner kick from senior Nick Schlagheck. Unlike most corner kicks where numerous
players get a touch on the ball, this kick by Nick looked as if it was a guided missile directly to Roop's right foot, and in. The half
ended with the Elks up 2-1.
The Elks added goal #3 in the second half when senior Ryan Cook finished after getting a foot on the ball in a crowd just in front
of the Wayne goal.
The Warriors were not giving up and kept the offensive pressure on. It paid off in their scoring another goal, bringing the score to an
uncomfortably close 3-2 with the Elks still on top and 6 minutes left to play. The Elks kept the attacking pressure on keeping the ball mostly
on the Wayne side of the field and closed out the last 6 minutes with no further score from Wayne, sealing another victory; Centerville 3, Wayne 2.
In the Reserve match Neil Banerjee fed the ball from midfield, and it was caught by Captain Sam Hofmann in the box who juggled then netted the ball
for an Elks early for a 1-0 halftime lead. Hunter Young then dished to Hofmann who dribbled up to the keeper, faked, and touched it in for his and
the Elks second score. A Captain Andrew Holmes free kick found Banerjee who headed it into the top corner of the net for the game’s final score.
Mitch Crompton and John Schaff led another defensive shutout, the Elks 9th on the season. The 3-0 victory improves the Reserve squad’s season
record to 11-2-1.
The next and final game of the regular season is Thursday away against the Fairmont Firebirds. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
October 8, 2011
Lakota West 3 - Centerville 2
The Elks faced Lakota West in an away game today. It was an extremely hot afternoon and the game was intense and physical.
Lakota came out strong and barely into the first half the Elks found themselves down 2-0. Unfortunately, keeper Brandon Isaacs was hurt in the
process of making a save and had to leave the game (the fans are all hoping you're okay, Brandon!). Justin Niswonger took over as keeper and
played an outstanding game with a number of saves that were highlight reel worthy.
Despite being down 2-0 early, the Elks continued to fight and it paid off. Lakota was charged with a foul and the Elks given a
penalty kick. Senior Scott Wilkerson took the shot and scored the Elks' first goal cutting the deficit to a single goal.
Later in what looked like a free-for-all on a corner kick from junior Brad Schluter, senior Slater Morgann came up with a shot through the
crowd that scored the Elks' second goal leaving it tied 2-2 at the half.
The second half was a battle of stamina between the teams and stayed evenly matched until the final 6 minutes when Lakota was able to
squeeze in a shot that gave them a 3-2 lead that would remain when time ran out.
The Elks face Wayne next on Tuesday on our home field. It's senior night so come out and support your team for their last home game.
In the Reserve match, the Firehawks started out strong forcing a flurry of saves by Elk keeper Amer Dallal on multiple free and corner kick
awards. Then a fine Alex Klaus header of an Andrew Ludwig corner found Hunter Young who drilled it home for an Elk score and an eventual 1-0
halftime lead. The youthful Firehawk squad met the Elks experience advantage with the most physical level of play seen by the Elks this season.
The Elks appeared to also have benefited by physical play, when an Aaron DeVilbiss slide tackle in the box snuffed a Firehawk breakaway. But
following an ensuing 3 minute game delay for the downed Firehawk, the far side judge then awarded a game tying PK to great approval from the
spirited Lakota fans present.
The match appeared to be headed for a draw until a late Mitch Curtis feed found Steven Laws tapping it to Kevin Seebacher's dramatic strike
with a mere 12 seconds remaining on the clock! The exciting 2-1 victory pushed the Reserve Elks season record to 10-2-1.
October 4, 2011
Centerville 3 - Northmont 0
The Elks boys varsity faced the Northmont Thunderbolts on our own home ground. The game was full of action with the Elks taking the most shots on goal,
but no pay dirt was struck until 3/4 of the way through the game. It wasn't until after 8 shots on goal that the Elks finally got dialed in on the target
when senior mid-fielder Slater Morgann capitalized on a pass from junior mid-fielder Brad Schluter to give the Elks a 1-0 lead.
Once the Elks got warm, they quickly got hot. Shortly after the first goal, the Elks tagged their second when junior mid-fielder Will Watrous
scored on an assist from senior Andrew Roop.
The final goal of the night came when senior Andrew Holmes spotted senior mid-fielder Justin Powell making a sideline run. Holmes dropped the ball
in perfect position for Powell to elude Northmont defenders and cross the ball to Andrew Roop for a finishing kick that put the final touch on a 3-0 win.
As is often the case when game highlights are printed, the focus is on goals scored. It would be a big oversight not to acknowledge the work of the
Elks defender's in helping make this game not only a win, but a shutout. Great job Alex, Scott, Kevin, and Garrett!
In the Reserve match, Mitch Curtis opened the scoring early on a PK. The Elks struck again on a Captain Sam Hofmann feed to Brian Flynn who found 'nothing but
net' for a 2-0 halftime lead. Hofmann then responded to Assistant Coach Hetman's familiar call of "BASELINE!" with an unassisted blast. A well placed
Andrew Ludwig feed found Captain Kevin Seebacher, who patiently made the Bolts keeper commit and then stepped around his prone position for a tap in score.
Hofmann drew paydirt a second time on a late rebound of a Troy Barklay shot for the Elks final score. Neil Banerjee played an exceptional game in leading
the staunch Elk defense to their 8th shutout. The 5-0 victory moves the Reserve A Elks season record to 9-2-1.
Next match is at Lakota West on Saturday afternoon October 8. Times are 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
October 1, 2011
Centerville 2 - Mason 0
The Elks varsity boys shutout Mason tonight, 2-0. The first score of the evening came in less than 10 minutes into the game when junior defender Garrett
Morrison timed a perfect header off a corner kick from senior Andrew Roop to slip it past the Mason keeper.
The Elks spent most of the remainder of the game with just a 1 goal lead until late in the game when sophomore mid-fielder Michael
Spangler took advantage of poor position by the Mason keeper and scored the second goal of the game to seal the win.
In the early match, the Reserve Elks 1-0 victory handed the Comets their first loss of the season. The scoreless first half ended having been played evenly,
cleanly, and well by both squads. The Comets, the Elks toughest challenge thus far, were simply outstanding in controlling the second half, wherein the
Elks struggled to maintain possession and the keepers were heroes in diffusing an onslaught of attacks: a perfectly measured hand save by Zach Skerl who
subsequently snuffed 2 free kicks, Amer Dallal's myriad of breathtaking saves, and then critical scoops made by closer Tim Roop. Defender Eric Jinn slashed
in to clear the Comets' final scoring threat. The Elks energized late with a well placed Mitch Curtis pass to Hunter Young who dished it to Captain Sam
Hofmann who snatched the ball from midair with a carousel shot, to which the Mason keeper had no hope of responding. Hofmann nearly scored again in the
final minute off another airborne kick.
Next match is at home versus the Thunderbolts of Northmont. Times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
September 22, 2011
Centerville 2 - St.Xavier 1
The Elks took on the St. Xavier Bombers tonight at home. The game looked like a comfortable win for the Elks at the end of the first half.
The second half showed a different level of play and turned into a match that could go either way.
Senior mid-fielder Slater Morgann scored the first goal of the match with 23 minutes left in the first half. A bobbled ball at the
goal by the Bomber keeper gave Slater just enough opportunity to slip a rocket shot into the upper back of the goal giving the Elks a 1-0 lead.
10 minutes later senior forward Alex Hopkins buried the Elks second goal and the half ended with the Elks holding a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The second half started well but turned sour when the Bombers were awarded a penalty kick that resulted in their first goal of the night, making
the score 2-1. With plenty of time on the clock and a one goal differential in scores, the heat was turned up on the Elks to defend their lead and
the Bombers pressed hard to level the score. Both teams took a number of shots on goal, many just near misses. With the clock winding down, the
Bombers just missed the elusive second goal when their goal kick ricocheted off the near post and they were unable to follow it up and close.
Final score, Elks 2, Bombers 1.
Reserve A recap
If near misses were worth a half goal each, the Elks would have won comfortably. The visiting Bombers tallied the only goal of the match in the first
half on a header off of a cross. The 1-0 setback drops the Reserve A Elks season record to 7-2-1.
Next for the Elks is a visit to Kettering Fairmont on Tuesday September 27. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
September 20, 2011
Centerville 7 - Springfield 0
The Elks Varsity Boys faced Springfield in an away match that turned out to be a very one sided affair in the Elks' favor. The Elks won the match 7-0.
A number of Elks scored in the match. Senior forward Andrew Roop scored his first of two goals early in the match. Less than 3 minutes later senior mid-fielder Colin
Packard scored, bringing the score to 2-0. It wasn't long before Roop struck again with a long free kick over the opposing wall that was just out of the keeper's reach
putting the Elks up 3-0 early in the match.
Later in the first half, senior forward Rob Berry scored with a great follow-up on a ball deflected by the Springfield keeper. Staying engaged in the action,
Berry followed his first feat with a wonderful cross to Colin Barnhart who buried the goal to score his first of two for the night.
Barnhart's second goal came via a successful penalty kick after he was tripped in the box on a drive to the goal.
The final goal of the match came on a perfectly placed cross field set from senior mid-fielder Justin Powell to junior mid-fielder Will Watrous who took the
opportunity and closed it for the 7th goal of the night.
The Elks next take on St. Xavier at home on Thursday night, match times are 5:30 and 7:30.
September 17, 2011
Talawanda 2 - Centerville 1
The Elk varsity boys faced the Talawanda Braves in Oxford Saturday afternoon. The Elks drew first blood with a goal by senior forward Nick Schlagheck early in the second half.
The Braves answered with a goal of their own soon thereafter to tie the game 1-1. Talawanda scored a second goal and despite numerous shots on goal, the Elks were unable
to overcome the deficit and ended suffering their second loss of the season with the final score 2-1.
In the early match, Bryan "BK" Kolpitcke opened the scoring early off a Kenny Morgann feed. Troy Barklay struck next off a keeper deflection of a BK shot.
Hunter Young danced through the defense and into the scoring party, unassisted.
Sam Hofmann then joined the party, escorted by Brian Flynn. Kevin Seebacher sliced in a PK to the left of a diving Braves keeper to close the half.
Young captialized on a Hofmann assist, following a well placed defensive feed from Aaron DeVilbiss. Hofmann returned to the party off a Mitch Curtis corner.
Young finished a Hofmann feed to end the party for an extended period of keep away. Veteran Coach Neil Vacchiano then apparently told the team to "use your heads",
resulting in a Seebacher noggin off an Andrew Holmes feed and a fitting Young "hat trick" off a beautiful lofting Flynn cross. The 10-0 shutout victory pushes
their season record to 7-1-1.
Next up for the Elks is a trip to Springfield to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday September 20. No Reserve A match, Varsity only. Match time is 5:30.
September 15, 2011
Centerville 2 - Moeller 0
The Elks played at home and faced Cincinnati's Moeller Crusaders. The first half was scoreless and the Elks were forced into playing more defense as the
Crusaders controlled the game offensively in the half. Keeper Brandon Isaacs stood strong in stopping the Crusaders from taking advantage of the scoring
opportunities they had.
The first 15 minutes of the second half looked much like the first half with neither team able to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The stalemate ended when Slater Morgann was tripped taking the ball to the goal. The trip was not called and with the ball still in play, Andrew Roop
spotted opportunity and finished with a beautiful shot to put the Elks up 1-0.
The second goal came from junior Will Watrous with only 8 minutes left in the game to seal the victory at 2-0.
Reserve A Recap
Stephen Laws stuffed an early Crusaders goal kick back into their box for the Elks only strike. The second half became much more physical. The Elks keepers
of Zach Skerl, Tim Roop, and Amer Dallal all had nice saves in the game, the finest of which was a flury of saving actions by Dallal off a bullet free kick.
The Crusaders were relentless and earned a tying strike with 13 min left on the clock. Despite several near miss attempts by the Elks in the games final minutes,
the 1-1 draw stood and pushed the Reserve A Elks record to 6-1-1 on the season.
On Saturday September 17 the Elks face the Talawanda Braves in an away match. Please note the new location and start times.
September 13, 2011
Beavercreek 1 - Centerville 0
The Elks Boys varsity team suffered their first loss of the season as they faced Beavercreek. The final score was 1-0.
The Elks didn't go down without a fight and only nearly missed on a number of scoring opportunities. Beavercreek also had
opportunities to better their score but thanks to some great saves by keeper Brandon Isaacs and some exceptional play and
blocked shots by defender Alex Broadstock, they were held to just a single goal.
The loss snaps an incrediable 33 home match unbeaten streak that dates back to the 2007 season. The last time the Elks lost at home was
September 18, 2007 in a 1-3 decesion to Beavercreek.
The Reserve A match also suffered their first loss of the season. After a dead even half of play, the Beavers drove home a score of a corner kick. The Elks
fought back but could not get a break. A special shout goes out to the Elk Crew boys who kept the ball in play during an exciting match!
Next up for the Elks is Moeller at home. The game is September 15, Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
September 8, 2011
Centerville 0 - Alter 0
The Elk Varsity Boys faced the Kettering Alter Knights tonight in the CHS football stadium. It was definitely a nail biter and not
a dull moment in the game. After two halves of solid play by both teams, the score ended in a 0-0 tie. There was no lack of trying by either
team and both teams had a number of near misses in scoring.
Reserve A - Andrew Ludwig initiated the scoring early by drilling home a header off a finely lofted Mitch Curtis cross. The Knights attempt to
tie moments later was snuffed by keeper Amer Dallal. The half closed with fervent counter attacks by both squads.
Following an Elk D eject of a promising attack, Sam Hofmann fed the ball to Hunter Young on the quick counter.
Young flew threw the defense and beat the keeper for another Elk score. Aaron DeVilbiss preserved the defensive shutout by slicing down the
Knights final scoring threat.
Next match for Centerville is against Beavercreek, at home, on Tuesday September 13. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
September 6, 2011
Centerville 4 - Troy 0
The Elks varsity boys faced the Troy Trojans at Memorial Stadium in Troy on what was the windiest and coolest night of play so far this season. It was a rough night for the Trojans.
By games end they had to have felt like they were victims of an “Elk stampede”.
After nearly 32 minutes of neither team scoring, Brad Schluter scored the Elks first goal with the half ending in a 1-0 lead for the Elks.
The real fireworks started almost as soon as the second half did. Only 4 minutes into the half, Slater Morgann scored the first of his two goals
of the night, giving the Elks a 2-0 lead. Later as the Elks defense broke up a Troy run, Andrew Roop placed a beautiful pass from mid-field
to Brad Schluter making a center run towards the goal. Dancing around the Troy goalie, leaving him defenseless, Brad scored an uncontested goal
and his second goal of the night. To top off the scoring, Slater Morgann returned for a second goal that he absolutely buried from the 30 yard mark.
The entire Elks team played an outstanding game and it showed in their 4-0 win.
A special shout out has to go to Scott Wilkerson.
Scott was key in a number of plays and just seemed to be everywhere he was needed at just the right time. Great hustle, Scott.
Reserve A recap
After 15 minutes of an evenly played stalemate, Andrew Ludwig's tap in off a nice feed from Kevin Seebacher visibly deflated the host Trojans.
The next strike was a dish by Steven Laws to Seebacher, who danced around the keeper and into an open net. Next Troy Barklay drew paydirt off an assist
from Kenny Morgann.
Late in a quiet 2nd half, a fine slide tackle by Kyle Decuir ended a scoring challenge and sent the ball out of play.
Keeper Zach Skerl made a dandy catch of an airborne shot off the subsequent throw in, and his punt initiated a sequence which seconds later found
Hunter Young "driving the lane" amongst 3 defenders and beating the keeper for the Elks final strike. Eric Jinn cleared a very serious scoring threat
in the final minute to preserve the shutout. The 4-0 victory improves the Reserve A squad's record to 5-0 on the season.
The Elks face the Alter Knights Thursday September 8 in what is sure to be a thriller to watch. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
September 1, 2011
Centerville 2 - Xenia 0
It was hot and humid as the Centerville Boy's varsity soccer team faced the Xenia Buccaneers on the Buc's home field.
20 minutes into the game, the Elks drew first blood with a header by Colin Barhart, giving the Elks a 1-0 lead.
The Bucs had an opportunity to level the score early in the second half with a penalty kick.
Elks goalie Justin Niswonger was having nothing of it and denied the kick with a beautiful diving block.
The Elks went on to seal the win with a cross from Michael Spangler to Rob Berry who finished with a goal giving the Elks a final score of 2-0.
In the early match, 6 Elks were as hot as the air tempature, scorching the net as the defense rarely saw action in a 7-0 shutout victory.
The Bucs greatest threat was arguably a miscue own goal “attempt”, squelched by keeper Tim Roop. Scoring highlights were a Barklay “backhand” off a dish from Young, a Morgann blast assisted by Curtis,
a trifecta of Holmes’ assists to Laws (header), Young, and Seebacher, a score by defender Banerjee off a Seebacher corner, and a goal by Young initiated
by a Curtis cross. The Elks improve to 4-0 on the season with the blow out win.
The Elks next match is at Troy on September 6. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
August 30, 2011
Centerville 0 - Vandalia Butler 0
The Centerville varsity boys soccer team had to settle last night for their first tie as they faced Vandalia Butler at home.
It was obvious from the beginning both teams came to win. Despite an intense game effort, the teams left the field tied 0-0.
In the Reserve A match, it was Captains night as early in the first half Captain Andrew Holmes notched the first goal by drilling home a
deflection off the keeper, and one minute later Captain Kevin Seebacher added a goal assisted by Steven Laws.
The Elks overwhelmingly outshot the Aviators, 36-3, but could score no more. With the 2-0 victory over the Butler, the Elks Reserve-A squad improves
to a perfect 3-0 record and an overall 19-1 scoring advantage.
The Elks are back in action on Thursday at Xenia. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
August 27, 2011
Centerville 2 - Westerville North 1
Senior Slater Morgann scored twice to lead the Elks to a thriliing 2-1 victory over visiting Westerville North Warriors.
Morgann's first score came on a nicly placed pass by Captain Adam Holmes, who threaded the ball past 3 North defenders. Morgann put the ball over the keeper who had come off his line.
The Elks held the 1-0 lead until North scored at 14:51 left in the second half. What seeming looked like a draw in the making, the Elks off a corner kick from the foot of
Alex Hopkins found Morgann at the six where it was promptly headed into the net. This score came with 28 seconds left in the match, giving a 2-1 victory to the Elks.
Next up for Centerville is Butler, at Home on Tuesday August 30. Match times are 5:30 and 7:30.
August 23, 2011
Centerville 4 - Lebanon 1
The Centerville Elks start their 2011 season the same as they started the 2010 season, beating the Lebanon Warriors 4-1.
In the first half the Elks put two on the board in a span of less than 2 minutes.
Alex Hopkins played a header into the right side of the net off a feed deep in the goal area from Slater Morgann. That goal coming at 29:12.
At 27:44, it was the captains that turned the trick.
Adams Holmes played a smart ball forward to a fast breaking Andrew Roop who flipped the ball over the charging Warrior keeper.
The Warriors moved the score to 2-1 just minutes into the second half. However, the Elks answered that score with one of their own off a direct kick placed into the box where Garrett Morrison
was able to find the net. Finishing out the scoring was Sophomore Michael Spangler, who hit paydirt off a corner kick by Andrew Barnhart.
The Elks next play on Saturday Aug 27, at home, against more Warriors, this time from Westerville North. Match times are 1 and 3 pm.
